2,2'-(Methylimino)bis(N,N-di-n-octylacetamide) is an extractant that is used in the isolation of technetium from aqueous solutions. It can be synthesized by reacting hydrochloric acid with 2,2'-dichloroethylmethylimine, and extracting the product with n-hexane. The chemical stability of 2,2'-(methylimino)bis(N,N-di-n-octylacetamide) has been shown by its extraction yield of technetium from acidic solutions. This extractant also has a high affinity for metal ions such as chloride and nitrate.
