MK 8033 is a recombinant human growth factor that is produced by genetically modified mouse cells. It has been shown to have clinical response in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer who have had little or no response to other therapies. MK 8033 activates the immune system by binding to the epidermal growth factor receptor on the surface of cancer cells, triggering an immune response. MK 8033 has also been shown to be effective in combination therapy with paclitaxel and cisplatin for treatment of prostate cancer. This drug has also been shown to increase iron homeostasis in mice and cell culture studies, which may be due to its ability to stimulate erythropoietin production.

MK-8033 is a new and selective dual ATP competitive c-Met/Ron inhibitor (IC50: 1 nM Wt c-Met).
