1-Chlorodecane is a chlorinated hydrocarbon that has been used as an industrial solvent and as a chemical intermediate. It is also an important component of petroleum refining, where it is used in the production of lubricating oils. 1-Chlorodecane is soluble in water and can be removed by wastewater treatment processes and thermal expansion methods. 1-Chlorodecane has a high resistance to oxidation, making it useful for the synthesis of fluorescence compounds. The hydroxyl group on the molecule makes it reactive with antimicrobial agents, such as chlorine dioxide, hydrogen peroxide, ozone, and ozone gas.
