CAS:Copper nitrate is the inorganic compound with the formula Cu(NO)2. It is a blue-green crystalline solid that dissolves in water to give a dark blue solution. Copper nitrate can be produced by treating copper metal with nitric acid, or by treating copper(II) carbonate with nitric acid: CuCO3 + 2HNO3 → Cu(NO)2 + CO2 + H2O The most important use of copper nitrate is as a precursor to other copper compounds. It is also used to dissolve organic matter from wastewater and inhibit corrosion of iron and steel.
