It has been shown to have high resistance to water vapor and is an experimental solubility data for the analysis of polyurethane. This compound also has a model system for the study of cancer in mice. 2,2-Bis(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol reacts with diisocyanates to form a reaction solution and monosodium salt.
