CAS:Trimethylammonium chloride is a sodium salt of trimethylamine that is used as a surfactant in the production of detergents and other surface-active products. It is also used as an intermediate in organic syntheses such as the preparation of acetone cyanohydrin. Trimethylammonium chloride can be prepared by the reaction between trimethylamine and hydrochloric acid. In addition, it has been shown to have a matrix effect on biological samples, which may lead to erroneous results when using biochemical research techniques. Trimethylammonium chloride has also been shown to inhibit HIV-1 replication in vitro with a monoclonal antibody, although it does not inhibit HIV-1 entry into CD4+ cells.
