2-(2-Methylphenyl)acetyl chloride
CAS:2-(2-Methylphenyl)acetyl chloride is a white crystalline solid that emits a strong odor. It is used in the synthesis of 2-methylbenzophenone, which is an aromatic compound. The compound undergoes regiospecific prototropic rearrangement to form ethylene, which then reacts with methyl iodide to produce an isomeric mixture of 2-(2-methylphenyl)ethanols. The resultant mixture can be separated into its two components using chromatography and recrystallization. This process is called dimerization. 2-(2-Methylphenyl)acetyl chloride has also been shown to react with sulphoxides to form heterocyclic rings.Formula:C9H9ClOPurity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:168.62 g/mol2-(2-Methylphenyl)acetyl chloride
