2-Propylquinoline-4-carboxylic acid is an organic compound that has been shown to have antibacterial, antiviral, and antitubercular properties. It has also been shown to have antidepressant and antimicrobial activities. 2-Propylquinoline-4-carboxylic acid belongs to the class of hydrazides and hydrazones that are derived from a chemical reaction between an amino group and a carbonyl group in which a water molecule is eliminated. The chemical structures of this compound include the hydrazide, hydrazone, and oxime derivatives. 2-Propylquinoline-4-carboxylic acid has been shown to be active against protozoa such as trypanosomes, leishmania, amoeba, and giardia in laboratory tests. It also exhibits antiinflammatory activity by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in rat peritoneal mast cells.
