Applications Tributylamine is used as a reagent in the syntheses of quaternary ammonium-containing trithiocarbonate RAFT agents and hemi-telechelic cationomers. Tributylamine is also used as a corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in hydrochloric acid and as an initiator for cracking of heptane. Tributylamine is a primary aliphatic amine that has a variety of industrial uses. It is used for the reduction of fatty acids and for the production of polyurethane foams. Tributylamine also has antiviral properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of viral proteins by blocking the interaction between adenosine A3 receptors and proton channels in the host cell membrane. In addition, tributylamine has been shown to inhibit HIV-1 replication in vitro by inhibiting reverse transcriptase activity and DNA polymerase activity.
