1,1'-Thiocarbonyldi-2(1H)-pyridone is a proapoptotic chemical that induces the release of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in a dose-dependent manner, and has been shown to enhance the sensitivity of cells to chemotherapeutic drugs. This drug also induces epidermal growth and cell cycle arrest, as well as inducing the expression of epidermal growth factor, which may be due to its ability to activate nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB). 1,1'-Thiocarbonyldi-2(1H)-pyridone has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells by inhibiting the activation of the epidermal growth factor receptor.
