Phenylisocyanate is a reactive organic compound that is used in the production of polyurethane. It reacts with amines to form urea, as well as with alcohols, ethers, and carboxylic acids to form esters. Phenylisocyanate may also react with hydrogen fluoride (HF) or sodium salts to form hydrofluoric acid (HFA). The analysis of phenylisocyanate can be performed using a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method. This analytical method has been shown to be useful for determining the purity of isocyanates during the production of polyurethanes.
