Strontium bromide is a control agent that is soluble in water. It can be used to produce cross-links between polymers, such as polyacrylamide, polyethylene glycol, and polyvinyl alcohol. Strontium bromide has been shown to be a useful cross-linker for proteins and peptides with the ability to promote cell adhesion on tissue culture surfaces. This chemical also reacts exothermically with hydrogen fluoride, phosphorus pentoxide, high salt, nutrient solution, inorganic acid, lanthanum chloride, and water vapor.
