    N-Nitroso-N-methyl-3-aminopropionic acid is a chiral compound that can be used as an antiatherogenic agent. It has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of fatty acids, which are important in the development of atherosclerosis, and to have a significant growth factor effect on cancer cells and bacteria. N-Nitroso-N-methyl-3-aminopropionic acid inhibits the enzyme hydrolysis activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) and is selectively cytotoxic to cancer cells. This compound has also been shown to have a beneficial effect on epidermal growth factor (EGF), which is associated with skin diseases such as psoriasis. N-Nitroso-N-methyl-3-aminopropionic acid binds reversibly to boron nitride, inhibiting its ability to catalyze oxidative reactions.
