4,5-Diaminopentanoic acid dihydrochloride is a semialdehyde that can be used in the synthesis of α-amino acids. It is also an intermediate in the synthesis of 4,5-diaminopentanoic acid, which is a precursor to polyamides. This compound has been shown to inhibit glutarate dehydrogenase and semialdehyde dehydrogenase.
