ω-Pentadecalactone (Exaltolide) is the fragrance structural group macrocyclic lactone and lactide derivatives used as a fragrance ingredient.

Pentadecanolide is a monomer used to make PGA-co-pentadecalactone polymers to be used in the development of directly compressed prolonged release tablets of slightly soluble drugs such as ketoprofen. Pentadecanolide may be used for the synthesis of poly(pentadecanolide) (PPDL) by Novozyme 435 catalyzed ring-opening polymerization. It may be employed as starting reagent for the synthesis of terminally-branched iso-fatty acids (iso-C15-C17). This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. Cyclopentadecanolide is a cyclic ether that is used in the production of health care products. It has been shown to be toxic to rats when administered orally at high doses (2000 mg/kg) for 90 days. Cyclopentadecanolide has been found to have genotoxic activity, but this effect has not been observed in yeast cells or human lymphocytes. Cyclopentadecanolide also shows low bioavailability and low energy content, which may make it unsuitable for oral administration.
