2-Amino-benzothiazole-6-carbaldehyde is a monoamine reuptake inhibitor that is used to treat depression. It was found to be a potent, orally active, and selective inhibitor of the dopamine transporter (DAT) with nanomolar potency. The drug blocks the reuptake of dopamine in rat brain cells and has been shown to attenuate the reuptake of serotonin in human cells with high efficacy. 2-Amino-benzothiazole-6-carbaldehyde has high affinity for the DAT and inhibits transporters such as SERT and NET. It is also thought to have a low potential for abuse due to its low efficacy when administered intravenously.
