It is used as a precursor to produce other chemicals and pharmaceuticals. 4-Chlorophenylhydrazine hydrochloride has been shown to react with acidolysis, which can be used for wastewater treatment. It also reacts with benzodiazepines, such as Diazepam, binding to the benzodiazepine site on the GABAA receptor.
