    CAS:
3-Ribofuranosyl-4,9-dihydro-4,6,7-trimethyl-9-oxoimidazo(1,2-a)purine is a nucleoside with the chemical formula C8H8N5O5. It is used in research as a phylogenetic marker and index fossil. 3RFP is found as a natural product in some plants and animals, but it can also be synthesized chemically. 3RFP has been shown to posttranscriptionally inhibit rRNA synthesis by binding to the ribonucleotide reductase enzyme. This inhibits the production of RNA needed for protein synthesis and cell division. 3RFP has been shown to have structural diversity that has yet to be fully explored due to its rarity.
