CAS:Temafloxacin is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent that is used in the treatment of pulmonary, urinary tract, and soft tissue infections. Temafloxacin inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, thereby preventing transcription and replication. It has been shown to inhibit growth of gram-positive bacteria, such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Enterococcus faecalis, and Staphylococcus aureus. This drug also has inhibitory properties against gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli. Temafloxacin binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of bacterial cells by competitive inhibition. This binding prevents the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division.
