2-Chloroethyl vinyl ether (CEVE) is an antimicrobial agent that belongs to the group of quaternary ammonium compounds. It is used in topical preparations as a preservative and disinfectant. CEVE has been shown to be effective against microbial infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter aerogenes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella enteritidis, and Candida albicans. 2-Chloroethyl vinyl ether has been shown to have antimicrobial properties through its ability to inhibit calcium ion binding to the bacteria's ribosomal subunits. The active form of CEVE is stabilized with MEHQ + Triethanolamine. This chemical stabilizer helps maintain the chemical stability of the compound during storage and use.
