6-Fluoro-5-Nitro-1,3-Benzothiazol-2(3H)-One is an alkynyl compound that can be used as a herbicide. It is nitrated and alkenylated by halide to form a phytotoxic molecule. This compound inhibits the growth of plants by inhibiting protein synthesis at the level of transcription. 6-Fluoro-5-Nitro-1,3-Benzothiazol-2(3H)-One is also able to inhibit the growth of certain bacteria, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex.
