1-Octadecene

1-Octadecene is a reactive chemical that is used as an antimicrobial agent. It is typically used in the laboratory to test for the presence of trifluoroacetic acid, which can be found in various household products and cosmetics. 1-Octadecene reacts with trifluoroacetic acid by forming a complex that has a detectable light emission. The formation of this complex is also dependent on the solvent, pH, and temperature. Glycol ethers may react with 1-octadecene to form polymers or particles. The phase transition temperature of 1-octadecene is around -90 degrees Celsius, making it chemically stable at low temperatures and resistant to hydrolysis at higher temperatures.
