CAS:Cefozopran is a combination therapy drug that contains cefozopran and penicillin. It is used to treat infections caused by bacteria, such as tuberculosis and meningitis. Cefozopran has been shown to be well tolerated in children and adults, with no toxic effects observed in toxicity studies. In addition, it has been found to be safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The drug binds to the penicillin-binding protein (PBP) of bacteria, which prevents bacterial cell wall synthesis and leads to bacterial death. There are many different types of PBP that exist in different types of bacteria; therefore, cefozopran is effective against a wide variety of bacterial species. Cefozopran can cause hypersensitivity reactions that manifest as erythema multiforme or Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
