It is a fatty acid that can be synthesized from the fatty acid thioester. 2-(4-Chlorophenyl)-1,3-indanedione has been shown to have potent anti-inflammatory effects in animal models of inflammatory diseases. It also inhibits protein synthesis in bacteria and viruses by binding to proteins required for protein synthesis. This compound has also been shown to be toxic in animals at higher doses.
