7-(Triethylsilyl)-Baccatin III is a taxane that has anti-cancer effects. Taxanes, such as 7-(Triethylsilyl)-Baccatin III, bind to microtubules and inhibit the polymerization of tubulin. This prevents the cell from dividing and eventually leads to cell death. 7-(Triethylsilyl)-Baccatin III is used in the treatment of various types of cancer because it can be synthesized in an asymmetric fashion with a high degree of purity. It binds to chloride ions and does not bind to cyclopropanated or chiral chloride ions, which makes it ideal for use in diagnostic assays.
