  • Diphenylacetic acid

    CAS:
    Diphenylacetic acid is a chiral compound that has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and other inflammatory mediators, which play a role in autoimmune diseases. The synthesis of these mediators is dependent on the enzyme cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1). Diphenylacetic acid inhibits COX-1 by forming an acyl ester with arachidonic acid, which blocks the formation of PGE2. This drug also inhibits COX-2 and leukotriene A4 hydrolase, which are enzymes involved in inflammation. Diphenylacetic acid has been shown to be effective in inhibiting the detrusor muscle contractions that cause urinary incontinence.
