  • Quinaldine red

    CAS:
Quinaldine red is a dye that binds to DNA. It has been shown to bind to α1-acid glycoprotein, which is a protein found in human serum and other biological samples. Quinaldine red may be used as a fluorescence probe for the detection of α1-acid glycoprotein or it may have other uses in biological research. This dye has been shown to react with p-nitrophenyl phosphate and form quinaldine as the product. The reaction mechanism of this process is not well understood, but it may involve hydrophobic effects and the formation of hydrogen bonds between nitrogen atoms on the p-nitrophenyl phosphate molecule and hydroxyl groups on quinaldine molecules. The binding affinity of this compound for DNA is enhanced by radiation exposure, which leads to increased fluorescence due to excitation of the dye by photons from radiation.
