4-Fluoro-2-pyridinecarboxamide is a brain-penetrating compound that binds to the efflux transporter, P-glycoprotein (Pgp). This binding prevents the transport of other compounds out of the brain and increases their uptake. This drug has been shown to label tumor cells in mice with breast cancer. 4-Fluoro-2-pyridinecarboxamide has also been shown to cross the blood brain barrier and bind to microglia cells in humans, which are immune cells in the central nervous system. It was observed that 4-fluoro-2 pyridine carboxamide increased the uptake of csf1r, a protein that is associated with inflammatory processes.
