Linezolid is a c1-c4, stereoisomers, linezolid antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting protein synthesis. Linezolid binds to the ribosomal 50S subunit and blocks the formation of peptide bonds during protein synthesis. Linezolid also has potent inhibitory activity against gram-negative bacteria. This drug has been shown to be effective in the treatment of serious infections caused by gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Linezolid has a trifluoromethyl group which is responsible for its potent inhibitory activity. It binds to inorganic acid which is present in the cell wall of gram-negative bacteria and prevents it from forming an enzyme complex with the ribosomal 50S subunit, leading to inhibition of protein synthesis.
