Ammonium pentaborate octahydrate is a boron nitride that has been used as a catalyst in the production of polyester. It promotes the exothermic reaction by combining with ethyl formate and deionized water to produce boric acid, which reacts with the metal surface to produce a coating. This coating increases the chemical stability of the metal surface, preventing corrosion and extending the life of coatings applied to it. Ammonium pentaborate octahydrate is also used industrially as a catalyst for polymerization reactions such as epoxy resin production.
