The reaction can be carried out in the presence of an azide or triazole with aldehydes or ketones. This synthesis has been shown to provide synthetically useful yields of both azides and triazoles. (5R)-3,4,5,6-Tetrahydro-5-phenyl-4(h)-1,4-oxazin-2-one can be used for the preparation of diastereoisomerically pure azides and triazoles by using an appropriate chiral auxiliary.
