Emtricitabine (FTC) is a synthetic nucleoside analog that is approved for the treatment of HIV infection. FTC is metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes into two metabolites, EMTR-diol and EMTR-triol. The pharmacopoeia defines impurity standards for both metabolites.
