Ethidium bromide
CAS:Ethidium bromide is a natural compound that is used as a fluorescent dye. The dye binds to the nucleic acids of the cell, including DNA and RNA, which intercalate with the guanine residues in the DNA. The dye molecules fluoresce when excited by ultraviolet light. This property has been used for biochemical research on nucleic acids and for labeling cells in histological sections for electron microscopy.
