2-Bromo-5-(iodomethyl)benzonitrile is a cyano compound that can be used as a starting material in the synthesis of other compounds. It is soluble in tetrahydrofuran, toluene, and acetonitrile. 2-Bromo-5-(iodomethyl)benzonitrile has been shown to yield the product with good yields in photophysical experiments. Diffraction studies have identified the molecular structure of this compound. 2-Bromo-5-(iodomethyl)benzonitrile has been shown to react with diphenylacetylene to form 1,1'-bi(diphenylacetylene). This reaction can be done using chloroform as a solvent. The x-ray crystal structure of this product has also been determined.
