CAS:Controlled Product7a,12a-Dihydroxylcholest-4-en-3-one is a structural analog of 7α,12α-dihydroxycholesterol. It has been studied for its catalytic mechanism and cavity. It is formed from the reaction of glutamate with cholesterol in a homogenate. The enzyme responsible for this biosynthesis is HMG CoA reductase, which converts 3 hydroxymethylglutaryl coenzyme A to mevalonate. Biochemical studies have shown that 7α,12α-dihydroxylcholest-4-en-3-one is metabolized by the liver into bile acids and excreted in the urine.
