Calcipotriol EP Impurity A is a quinoline derivative that is used as a lumichrome. It has been shown to have antibacterial activity, with minimal cytotoxicity, and appears to be effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. This compound selectively binds to the bacterial cell wall by inhibition of protein synthesis through inhibition of the enzyme peptidoglycan synthetase. Calcipotriol EP Impurity A also inhibits the growth of neosartorya, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the enzyme catechol oxidase.

MC 1046 is an impurity of Calcipotriol. Calcipotriol is a ligand of VDR-like receptors.
