    Zirconocene dichloride is a zirconium compound that reacts with ethylene diamine to produce the active species, zirconocene. Zirconocene then reacts with activated sodium salts in the presence of water vapor to form the corresponding zirconium oxide. This process is reversible and has been shown to be a single-step reaction that produces high yields of zirconium oxide. The deuterium isotope effect has been observed in this process, which is due to the incorporation of deuterium into the product.
