It inhibits the activity of p38 MAP kinases, which are involved in inflammatory responses and cancer development. PF 5006739 is a potent inhibitor of adipose tissue casein kinase 1 (AT-CK1), which prevents the activation of lipolysis proteins such as hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL).
