The peptide sequence is derived from the antigen MSA, which is found on mouse tumor cells and other cancer cells. MSA-2 has been shown to bind to monoclonal antibodies and to have optical properties that are sensitive to changes in oxidation catalyst activity. MSA-2 has been shown to have an antibody response when used as an antigen in vitro. When injected into mice, it elicited an immune response against MSA, leading to tumor cell death.
