7-Methylpterin is an intermediate in the synthesis of sepiapterin, which is a cofactor for tetrahydrofolate (THF) synthase. The enzyme preparations for this reaction are glycosidases, phosphoglycerate kinase, and glycerate kinase. This product has been found to be active at acidic pHs and can serve as a fluorescent probe for acid analysis.
