Nickel(II) nitrate
CAS:Nickel nitrate is a chemical compound that is used as a catalyst and in the production of nickel metal. It has been shown to be an effective catalyst for the reduction of water vapor to hydrogen, which can then be used as a fuel. Nickel nitrate is also stable up to 150°C, with optimum concentration occurring at pH 8-9. The x-ray crystal structures show that the hexahydrate crystallizes in the P2 space group. Nickel nitrate has hydrogen bonding interactions with water molecules, which are necessary for its stability. Nickel nitrate will react with hydrogen fluoride (HF) to produce hydrogen gas and hexahydrate. The reaction solution will have a green color due to the formation of NiF2, NiO, and Ni(OH)2. Structural analysis shows that this compound has coordination geometry between the metal ion and six oxygen atoms from three nitrates. Biological samples such as blood or urine may contain nickel ions from environmental exposure or from medical devices containingFormula:NO3·Ni·6H2OPurity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:290.79 g/molNickel(II) nitrate hexahydrate, 99%, for analysis
