Miransertib is an inhibitor of the enzyme protein kinase, which plays a key role in the development and progression of many diseases. Miransertib has been shown to inhibit tumor growth and induce neuronal death in animal models. It also inhibits the activity of kinases that are not associated with cancer, but have been implicated in other disease states such as metabolic syndrome. Miransertib has synergistic effects when combined with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in inhibiting inflammation-driven colon cancer. This drug may be useful for treating patients who have a genetic mutation that causes their tumors to grow more quickly than normal.
