Applications Ethoprophos is an organophosphate non-systemic nematicide and soil insecticide (1). Ethoprophos is an acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor (2,3). Drinking water contaminant candidate list 3 (CCL 3) compound as per United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), environmental, and food contaminants. Used as a standard for Pesticide detection. Ethoprophos is also useful in cannabis testing kits as a component of pesticide mixes (P698230). Ethoprophos is a population growth inhibitor that is used in the control of insects, rodents, and other pests. It inhibits the biosynthesis of chitin by acting as an aromatic hydrocarbon substrate analogue. Ethoprophos has been shown to have no significant effect on the growth of wild-type strains of colorectal carcinoma cells. This agent has also been shown to be effective against nematodes and insect larvae at neutral ph levels. It has not been observed to have any adverse effects on plants or animals when used at concentrations below 500 ppm. Ethoprophos is a white crystalline powder with a melting point between 120°C and 130°C. It is soluble in water and alcohols, but insoluble in ethers and petroleum solvents.
