Anguillarum is a type of bacteria that causes disease in humans. It is one of the two species of Vibrio that can cause human disease, and it is the most common cause of food-borne illness in North America. The type strain of Anguillarum, ATCC 12633, has been sequenced and analysed to determine its characteristics. This bacterium produces 3-hydroxybutyryl-L-homoserine lactone (3HBHL) as a molecule that interacts with other strains of Anguillarum. The 3HBHL molecule regulates the expression of genes such as those involved in intestinal colonization by this bacteria. 3HBHL also regulates the expression of genes involved in interactions with other bacteria, such as Vibrio anguillarum, which may result in different phenotypes between these strains.
