Butyltin chloride dihydroxide binds to the fatty acid moiety of the cell membrane and forms a reactive disulfide bond that can cross-link lipids, proteins, and DNA. This reaction blocks cell membrane functions and causes cell death through polymerization or polymerization reactions between cells.
