Nevirapine is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor that is used to treat HIV infection. It is the most potent drug for inhibiting HIV-1 replication and has been shown to be effective in clinical trials with humans. Nevirapine is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with peak plasma concentration typically reached within 2 hours of ingestion. The half-life of nevirapine ranges from 14 to 18 hours, and it is excreted mainly as a glucuronide conjugate. Nevirapine can cause hepatic impairment, which may lead to increased plasma concentrations of the drug. The use of nevirapine in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should be avoided because this drug may cause birth defects. Nevirapine also has reactive properties that make it unsuitable for wastewater treatment applications. 6-Fluoro-3-indoxyl-beta-D-galactopyranoside: Rifapentine
