CAS:5-Hydroxypentanoic acid is a metabolite of caproic acid in the body and is produced by oxidation of 2-hydroxyphenylacetic acid. It is also produced when lysine is degraded, which occurs in the presence of oxygen. 5-Hydroxyphenylpentanoic acid has been shown to inhibit cholesterol synthesis by competitively inhibiting hydroxymethylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase (HMGR), an enzyme that converts 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMGCoA) into mevalonic acid. 5-Hydroxyphenylpentanoic acid can be used for wastewater treatment because it reduces the amount of organic matter present in water. The structure of 5-hydroxyphenylpentanoic acid has been determined using x-ray crystallography and shows a hydroxyl group with an energy metabolism at one end and a phenolicFormula:C5H10O3Purity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:118.13 g/molRef: 3D-NAA39269
