CAS:4-Methoxycyclohexanon is a high molecular weight, aromatic compound that is produced by the hydrogenation of 4-methoxycyclohexanol. 4-Methoxycyclohexanon is used in wastewater treatment and has been shown to possess oxidizing properties. The oxidation of 4-methoxycyclohexanon occurs by the addition of oxygen atoms to the molecule's hydroxyl groups, which can be activated by phosphotungstic acid. After oxidation, the molecule is reduced back to its original state with hydrogen gas, producing water and cyclohexanol as a byproduct. The reaction yield for this process was found to be around 95%. The large dipole moment of this molecule means that it can form hydrogen bonds with other molecules, including particles like sand and salt, which makes it useful for removing these substances from water.
