CAS:Sodium 6-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulfonate is a dodecyl, nanotube, antibacterial, and diazonium salt. It has been shown to have a high level of activity against perillae and other bacterial strains. It is able to kill bacteria by reacting with them at their surface and generating reactive oxygen species that are toxic to the cells. Sodium 6-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulfonate has also been shown to be effective in killing bacteria on metal surfaces such as copper or silver. This property may be due to its ability to react with metal ions on the surface of the metal and generate hydrogen peroxide, which can cause oxidative stress in the cell. The molecular modeling studies show that sodium 6-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulfonate interacts with cellulose acetate through hydrophobic interactions, which may explain its ability to kill bacteria on this material.
