3,6-Dicyanopicoline is a potent blocker of voltage-gated sodium channels in the cerebral cortex. It blocks these channels by binding to their phosphorylcholine moiety and thereby blocking ion flux. 3,6-Dicyanopicoline also blocks postsynaptic potentials and reduces the latency of evoked responses in the cerebral cortex. This agent is used to study the effects of electrical stimulation on brain function and morphology.
